Mattel releasing hoverboard from Back to the Future

The year 2015 is coming up fast, and it seems like many of the future inovations seen in the future Hill Valley of Back to the Future: Part II have not come to pass

The movie-accurate 1:1 Hoverboard replica will ship for Christmas 2012, with limited preorder in March. Here is the official description from the Mattel press release:


Back to the Future Hover Board: Finally! This totally awesome 1:1 replica of the hover board from the BTTF 2 and BTTF 3 films includes multiple whooshing sounds and will glide over most surfaces (does not actually “hover” – check back in 2015 for that feature). We’ll be taking orders for it March 1 – March 20, 2012, and the final product will be shipped around November/December 2012. Because this is such a high-cost item, there will be a minimum number of orders required to go into production. If we don’t receive the minimum orders, won’t go into production and customers will not be charged. The price will be announced later this month. (Note: Hover board does not work on water.)

Back to the Future will never die. Every few months something noteworthy pops up tied to Robert Zemeckis‘ time travel trilogy such was the theatrical re-release, Blu-rays and limited edition Nikes. Mere hours ago, rumors of a possible Broadway showeven began to circle. Now photos of a custom made, unbelievably detailed version of Hill Valley 2015 have surfaced online. They were created by Alex Jones, who can only be refered to as a Lego savant. He’s captured the entire square, down to every single store, person and more.

Bizarre ban on The Back to the Future

From Flavorwire comes a list of bizarre reasons countries ban movies. Among the list was China's ban on "Back to the Future"

Any movie featuring time travel, banned in China (2011)

We could probably fill up this whole list with weird things that China has forbidden in cinema, but what really takes the cake is their ban on “fantasy, time-travel, random compilations of mythical stories, bizarre plots, absurd techniques, even propagating feudal superstitions, fatalism and reincarnation, ambiguous moral lessons, and even a lack of positive thinking.” According to The Daily Mail, the Chinese government is concerned about the idea of film characters going back and rewriting history.

On the plus side, at least no one in China is forced to entertain the thought of what might happen if their future parents tried to seduce them. That tends to mess a person up.
